I’ve got a job interview coming up, what should I wear?
By Unicorn Jobs
First impressions really count at an interview so looking your best is a must.
There are no hard and fast rules as dress codes vary from company to company, but if in doubt dress up rather than down. A dark suit is a good investment. Make sure it fits well and is cleaned and pressed. Several supermarkets now offer suits at prices to suit the budget conscious so there is no reason not to have one.
Ladies, it is no longer essential that you wear a skirt, trousers are acceptable, but if you do choose the skirt option keep it knee length or longer. A flash of thigh is not a good way to start an interview nor is an eyeful of cleavage so don’t wear anything too low cut.
Shoes should be polished, shirts should be ironed, nails should be clean and hair should be washed and brushed.
Gentlemen, wear a tie. If you get to a company and realise everyone is in jeans and t-shirts then you may possibly remove it, but no one will mark you down for turning up looking groomed and smart.
Keep jewelery to a minimum, and ladies keep your make-up natural and light.
Being clean and smelling nice are essential – take a shower! But don’t smother yourself in tonnes of aftershave or perfume. A small amount is fine, but if your interviewer can smell you before you enter the room it is likely to distract them.
